Artist's Description

This composite image combines Osmar Schindler’s ''David and Goliath'' with a pose based on Michelangelo’s statue of ''David.'' While most images of Michelangelo’s ''David'' show the front, the back view clearly reveals the sling he is about to use to slay Goliath.

The story of little David overcoming the giant Goliath has offered hope since Biblical times, and although Michelangelo’s ''David'' was originally commissioned for Florence Cathedral, it was placed in a public square outside the Palazzo della Signoria, the seat of government, symbolizing the Florentine Republic’s determination to retain its independence despite
threats from more powerful rival states.
