Artist's Description

Sir Edward Poynter, a well respected English painter, became director of the National Gallery and was elected president of the Royal Academy. He did not merely make studies from live models for every figure in his paintings but also did studies of a skeleton in the pose.

Despite the unpopularity of nudes at the time, he did not shrink from painting them. Nor did he hold back from glorifying sensuality.

The young women in "Cave of the Storm Nymphs" are clearly enjoying treasures from a destroyed ship.

Could they be sirens?

(Excerpt from the book "Revisiting the Classics.")

This print has been featured in the Center for Photographic Arts '2013 Juried Exhibition,' Peoria Illinois Art Guild's 'Nude Attitude,' and the Vermont, Darkroom Gallery's 'Skin.'
