Artist's Description

This composite pays homage to the last painting created by Raphael. Reluctantly betrothed to a Cardinal’s niece, he loved his model, a lowly baker’s daughter, whom he immortalized in "La Fornarina." A year later, he succumbed to a deadly fever—purportedly after a night of excessive pleasure in the little baker’s arms.

Within the year, his betrothed died, too.

Such is the power of a model as a muse.

(Excerpt from the book "Revisiting the Classics.")
