Artist's Description

Madman or mystic, the Scottish painter John Duncan heard "faerie music" while he painted.

In this composite of "Heptu Bidding Farewell to the City of Obb," the beast appears to be a combination of gryphon and cockatrice. Where a gryphon has the body of a lion and the head of an eagle, a cockatrice is born from the egg of a cock incubated by a toad and can turn its enemies into stone merely by looking or breathing on them.

Altogether a Flight Fantastic!
