Description
Julius LeBlanc Stewart was the son of an American sugar millionaire. He painted in Paris and was nicknamed ''the Parisian from Philadelphia.'' He enjoyed a lush expatriate life and the luxury of painting whatever he pleased on large-scale canvasses reflected in the relaxed pose of his two subjects in ''The Glade.''
The subject of Stewart’s painting lent itself naturally to adding the composite pose of my model styled after the classical Greek statue, ''The Thorn Puller.''
